Introducing Rishidot Research

Krishnan Subramanian · April 2, 2012 · 8 Comments

Today I am officially launching Rishidot Research LLC, a next-gen analyst firm focussed on helping enterprises navigate the fast changing computing landscape. In my conversations with enterprise execs, IT managers, etc., I found a common recurring theme. They all feel that there is a wide gulf between the legacy analyst firms and the new age firms, I am positioning Rishidot Research to fill the gap and help enterprises take advantage of the modern technologies without badly disrupting themselves.

Legacy analysts usually come with a good technical background but they are very conservative in their approach towards emerging technologies. Such a conservative approach worked well with enterprises in the past decades when the technological evolution was more or less linear. It didn’t put their enterprise clients in any serious disadvantage because they could always bridge the impact of incremental changes in technology by playing a catching up game. However, today’s technology is evolving at an exponential rate and the legacy conservative approach is turning out to be a huge drag on modern enterprises. It is just not helping them to stay competitive in an era when even small businesses can afford to have technology that help them compete with their larger counterparts.

On the other hand, the new age analyst firms that are pushing enterprises to embrace modern technologies are doing so purely based on the business impacts of these tools than any deeper understanding of the underlying technology. This leads to a mismatch resulting in massive IT failures, often leading to business disruption. This approach is also not working well for the modern enterprises.

At Rishidot Research, I have made a decision to bring together analysts with technical depth and modern outlook. I believe that my biggest advantage in the industry is to look at the problems more from a technical perspective than just randomly matching technologies to meet the business objectives. I feel that such an approach will help organizations avoid large scale disruptions as they embrace these newer tools to stay competitive. I am also confident that I can apply the same approach to scale this research firm in the future. Right now I am the only one behind the firm but I expect to expand this firm in the coming months/years with analysts who fit in the above mold.

After studying the market for the past few years, I am now confident that my approach to industry research can help both the enterprise buyer side and the seller side as we move towards the great computing convergence, a term I use for the convergence of seemingly disparate technologies like cloud computing, social, mobile and big data. I am confident that organizations will trust my approach to industry research and join me as they embark on their own journey towards this great computing convergence.

I hereby declare Rishidot Research to be officially open for business 🙂
